Yesterday afternoon, the girls’ basketball team dispatched Staten Island Academy, 61-25, to sweep the season series from the Tigers and improve their league record to 6-0. With four games to go, the Bears are in the driver’s seat to repeat as the regular season PSAA Champions.
In their match-up on January 24, the Bears raced out to an 18-2 first quarter lead, and they replicated that yesterday with a 17-4 edge through the first eight minutes, fueled by nine points from Niamh Scanlon. A 21-4 second quarter, powered by Jocelyn’s McCrain’s eight points, gave The Brook a commanding 38-8 margin at the half.
Scanlon and Ava McCormick combined for 13 points in the third period as the lead grew to 55-18 on the way to the lopsided victory.
Scanlon led all scorers with 20 points, despite sitting for almost the entire fourth quarter. McCrain scored 14 points, to go along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds, while McCormick (10), Quinn Davey (7), Chloe Feldman (2), Jelissa Burnett (2), Scarlett Davey (2), and Myla Lombardo (2) completed the Bear attack.
The Blue & White are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Locust Valley for a match-up with rival Portledge.
