On Saturday afternoon, the boys’ basketball team won their fourth straight game with a non-league, 46-30 victory over Seward Park in the Gotham Hoops Classic held at Adlai Stevenson HS in the Bronx.
In a battle of the Bears, Stony Brook took a 9-6 lead after the first quarter behind five points from Orlando Morris and buckets from Niks Zemitis and Charlie Onana Awana. The Brook grabbed control of the game in a 15-6 second frame, fueled by four points apiece from Morris, Onana Awana, and Nate Small, to take a 24-12 lead into the half.
The Blue & White further extended their margin in a 15-7 third quarter, thanks to a third 3-pointer and seven points from Morris, to take a comfortable 39-19 lead into the final frame on the way to victory.
Morris led Stony Brook with 16 points, while Small added 9, earning MVP honors with his all-around play. Awana (8 points), Federico Chiappa (6), Zemitis (4), Osazee Alapa (2), and Randolph Logan (1) rounded out the offense. The Bears are back in action this afternoon at Long Island Lutheran in a key PSAA tilt.
