On Saturday morning, the girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Brooklyn for a match-up with Poly Prep in a renewal of hostilities with our old Ivy League rivals. The Bears and Blue Devils clashed last year in a pair of non-league match-ups that saw the Brook emerge with narrow victories on both occasions, 10-9 and 12-11. There was little drama in Saturday’s rematch as the Bears carried a 5-2 lead into the half before shutting Poly out, 8-0, in the second half for a resounding victory 13-2 win.
Alexis Savage powered the offense with a game-high 5 goals and a game-high 4 assists. Natalia Pagano (2G/ 3A), Morgan Ruggieri (2G/ 2A), Mia Trama (1G/ 2A), Alexandra Puopolo (1G/ 1A), Sydneyanna Giardini (1G), and Michelle Xuan (1G), provided a deep and broad attack for the Blue & White. Emily Berger made 15 stops in net behind a defense of Georgia Apazidis, Christy Eugene, Tiffany Akinyoade, and Nikki Carlo that scooped up a collective 8 ground balls and stymied Poly over the final 25 minutes.
The Bears are back in action on Friday in a key league match-up at Portledge.
