Lingle at the Penn Relays

On this day 58 years ago, Robin Lingle ’60 helped the University of Missouri set a school record in the two mile relay at the 41st Michigan St. Relays. Lingle ran a 1:49.0 anchor leg to lead the Tigers to victory in 7:33.3, shattering the East Lansing Field House record of 7:41.6 set by Western Michigan the previous year. Meet officials said it was the second-fastest relay ever run on an indoor dirt track, just behind Kansas’ 7:29.2 from 1962. Lingle also won the 1,000 yards in 2:15.7.

Later that season, Lingle went on to win Big Eight Conference Championships in the 1,000 yards (2:11.7) and mile (4:10.0).
