On this day 24 years ago, the boys’ basketball team pulled out a 53-51 victory in a taut game with league rival Pierson.
The Bears led 51-42 with just four minutes remaining, but Pierson used an 8-0 spurt to pull within a point with 1:29 left. Daren Brown’s putback with one minute on the clock gave the Brook a 53-50 cushion and the defense held the Whalers to a single point the rest of the way as the Bears improved to 9-2 on the season. Brown finished with 10 rebounds while Jon Marvin led the scoring with 17 points.
