On this day 29 years ago, the boys’ basketball team clinched at least a share of their first League Championship since 1975 in a 49-41 victory over Hampton Bays.
Nils Brownworth scored six of his 14 points in the third quarter to help the Bears grab a comfortable 38-24 lead, but a 9-0 run by the Baymen pulled them back within 36-42 with two minutes left in the fourth. Jonas Fischer proved too much down the stretch, dropping in seven of his 16 points in the final two minutes, as the Brook sealed a historic win.
Jeremy Linzee (7 points), Jeremy Fischer (7), Jeremy Meserole (3), and Matt Mattimore (2) rounded out the scoring for the Blue & White.
