Yesterday evening, Chase Audige ’17 and the Northwestern University men’s basketball team emerged victorious in a 79-78 overtime thriller over Rutgers.
The Wildcats charged out of the gates, thanks in part to two slams from Audige, to take a commanding 43-25 edge at the break. The Scarlet Knights, led by Pre-Season All Big Ten senior, Ron Harper Jr., carved into the lead before ultimately tying the game at 70-70 on a dunk by Clifford Omoruyi with one second left in regulation.
The Wildcats have seen numerous close games slip away this season, including five by five points or less, but they had enough in the tank to finish this one.
Rutgers scored the first points of overtime, but Audige answered 19 seconds later with his third 3-pointer of the game to give Northwestern the lead for good and help even their record at 10-10. Audige finished with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting to go along with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. He is currently 2nd in the Big Ten in steals per game with 1.8.
Audige and the ‘Cats are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Lincoln for a Big Ten showdown with Nebraska.
