The 1996-97 Bears

On this day 25 years ago, the girls’ basketball team won a thriller over Hampton Bays, three weeks after clipping their league foes by a 42-41 margin.

In the rematch, the teams were deadlocked at 45-45 with three minutes left in the game when Eileen Cark hit a layup that gave the Brook the lead for good. Clark and Anna Linzee combined for a game-closing 8-1 run that turned the 45-45 stalemate into a 53-46 victory for the Brook. Rebecca Fischer led the Blue and White with 18 points.

The Bears went on to secure the program’s first League Championship that season.
