Last Thursday, the girls’ swim team jumped into the water with one of the largest schools in Suffolk County in a non-league meet with Sachem North. The Bears won nine of the 12 events, which included the one-meter diving event that the team does not compete in, racking up 72 points to Sachem’s 108.
Event winners for the Bears included:
- 200 Medley Relay: Amelia Griffin, Kaitlyn Tse, Sofia Arrascue & Ruthie Crane – 1:59.90
- 200 Freestyle: Griffin – 2:05.11
- 200 Individual Medley: Tse – 2:22.83 (Tie)
- 50 Freestyle: Ruthie Crane – 27.62
- 100 Butterfly: Naomi Crane – 1:08.84
- 500 Freestyle: Ruthie Crane – 5:28.43
- 100 Backstroke: Griffin – 1:04.90
- 100 Breaststroke: Tse – 1:09.90
- 400 Freestyle Relay: Griffin, Naomi Crane, Tse & Ruthie Crane – 4:01.61
Coach Laura Donlevy also lauded Arrascue’s toughness for swimming down opponents in both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, earning points for the Brook in both events, and Brooke Shteierman’s resilience in swimming back-to-back 200 freestyles in the relay and the open.
