On Friday afternoon, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams raced against some of the largest schools in Suffolk County at the annual Tom Knipfing Invitational, held at Fireman’s Field. The notoriously fast course led to seven personal records on the girls’ side and another nine for the boys over the 5k distance.
Evelyn Apazidis led the way for the Brook, medaling in 14th place overall in a field of 97 with a time of 22:11. Yasmin Tinaz (39th/24:32), Alexandra Puopolo (53rd/25:24), Mia Trama (54th/25:37), Eowyn Jeffrey (56th/25:41), Alice Sun (64th/26:38), Natalia Pagano (84th/29:32), and Aubree Yoder (87th/30:23) also PRed for the Brook, which finished 7th out of 11 teams and ahead of Islip, Rocky Point, Port Jeff, and Amityville.
Zach Xu was the top runner for the boys’ team, taking 30th in the 170-man field in a time of 19:04. Joe Barisic Cubillas (35th/19:23), Marc Nichitiu (67th/20:22), Forest Kaplan-Walbrecht (97th/21:44), and Theo Greenfield (110th/22:42) also scored for the Brook.
The boys are back in action on Thursday in a PSAA meet hosted by Portledge. The girls return to the course on Saturday for the Suffolk Officials meet at Sunken Meadow.
