This past weekend, the sail team returned to the water for the NYISA-SE Fall Fleet Qualifier in Oyster Bay. It was a grand return in their first event since winning the Phebe King Regatta in Annapolis last June, as the Bears took 1st place in a field of five teams over eight races and across two divisions.
Racing began at 10:30am on Sunday morning amid a light, erratic westerly, but the Bears proved masterful in the less than ideal conditions. The Division A crew of Steven Hardee and Sean Beaver won their first race and took 2nd in the final three to take 2nd place overall in the division. Gavin Hudson and Mairead Reitzel took 2nd in their first Division B race before winning their final three to earn the top spot in their division. The final team scores combined the point total from each division, giving the Brook a comfortable victory.
The Bears are back in the water on October 16 for the MASSA Gold Fleet Championship in Rochester.
