On Wednesday afternoon, the girls’ basketball team traveled to Queens and returned to the Brook with a 53-35 win over Martin Luther.

The Bears led 15-13 after the first quarter, paced by Niamh Scanlon’s nine points, and extended the edge to 29-16 at the half by limiting the Cougars to a single 3-pointer in the second. Scanlon and Wura Obasanjo combined for all of the team’s 14 points in the frame that included a pair of 3-pointers from Scanlon.

The Bears extended their advantage in a 13-10 third period as Scanlon notched her fourth and fifth 3-pointers and Elizabeth Robbins knocked down a tifecta of her own. Obasanjo added seven more points in the fourth to help the Brook close out the decisive win.

Scanlon led all scorers with 25 points while Obasanjo poured in 18 of her own. Robbins (5) and Bekah Detwiler (5) rounded out the scoring. The Bears have clinched a playoff berth for the third straight season and will likely head into the postseason as the #2 seed in the East Division.

The Bears are back in action this evening in their Senior Night game vs. Our Savior.
