XC Teams Dominate Home Meet

On Friday afternoon, during a crisp 59-degree afternoon, the cross country teams capped their regular seasons with sweeps in their respective PSAA meets, held on the S. T. Hsaio 2.5-mile home course.

Sarah Wong maintained her undefeated record in PSAA competiton, leading wire-to-wire to win in 16:34. Evelyn Apazidis took 2nd place in 17:39 before a Kew-Forest runner took 3rd overall in 17:57. The next five finishers were Bears as Yasmin Tinaz (4th/18:13), Maryana Lekanova (5th/18:22), and Judy Tao (6th/18:50) scored for the Bears. Kew-Forest did not factor into the team scoring without the requisite five runners, so the Bears earned the sweep by compiling just 15 points to dispatch Waldorf (48) and Portledge (57).

The boys also swept aside their competition as they took the first eight spots in the race. Riley Corcoran also remained undefeated in PSAA meets for his career, running by himself from the gun to take the victory in 13:12. Zack Xu (2nd/13:58), Forest Kaplan-Walbrecht (3rd/14:45), Jerry Wan (4th/15:16), and Pedro Gradvohl (5th/15:19) scored for the Bears as they swept Portledge (48) and Knox (57).

Both teams are back in action on October 28 in the PSAA Championship, held at the famed Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
