The girls’ soccer team weathered quite a difficult season. Just a year removed from a berth in the PSAA Championship, the Bears battled numerous injuries that often left them short-handed. But yesterday evening, they closed the season with a gratifying 2-1 win over Waldorf thanks to some late-game heroics.

In their previous match-up with the Wolverines, the Bears had been shut out, 0-3, but last night they opened the scoring when Madison Logan found the net at the 20:43 mark. They held that lead until just 2:22 remained in the half when a defensive miscue led to a Waldorf equalizer as the squads headed into the half knotted at 1-1.

The second half was tightly contested and the Bears had several chances, but could not tuck away the winner until Logan struck again with just 4:06 remaining on a beautiful hit from just inside the 18-yard box. Sophia DiLavore’s key save with 18 minutes left preserved the tie and paved the way for Logan’s winner.
