Hall rises up for a kill vs. Our Savior (PC: Agnes Zhou)

On Friday night, in front of a thunderous Blue Fan Group, the volleyball team improved to 3-0 in PSAA play with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Knox. The Bears have not lost a league match in either Section XI or the PSAA since October 25, 2016, a string of 21 consecutive wins including 19 by way of the sweep.

The Falcons opened the match with two straight points to take an early 2-0 lead. The Bears responded with an overwhelming show of force that earned them 25 of the next 26 points, securing a dominant set one win and sending the Swanson Faithful into a frenzy. Nadia Hall opened a 17-0 run with a kill, then Natalie Stefaniuk’s first of four aces during the run gave the Brook a 4-2 lead. From there, six Bekah Detwiler kills, including a missile that uncorked the Blue Fan Group, kills from Hall and Ava McCormick, and a pair of aces from Elizabeth Robbins powered the Bears to a 25-3 win.

In set two, a pair of Shannuel Lamptey aces left the Brook with an early 3-0 edge. Another Robbins ace and a McCormick kill pushed the advantage to 9-3 before a quick run brought the Falcons back within 12-8. From there, the Bears outscored the visitors 13-4 over the remainder of the frame, a run punctuated by a pair of Lamptey kills, two Leslie Kang aces, a Hall spike, and three Detwiler kills for the 25-12 win.

In set three, seventh-grader Mariella Mola’s consecutive aces staked the Brook to a 3-1 lead before a Hall block upped the advantage to 4-1. The Bears remained in control for the remainder of the evening thanks to four Detwiler kills, three Robbins aces, and two Lamptey kills as the Bears wrapped up an electric night with a 25-9 win.

The Bears are back in action on Friday night in a home match-up with Kew-Forest.
