On this day 24 years ago, Matt Mattimore finished 4th overall in Suffolk County in the 100 meters at the Suffolk County Championships, held at Mt. Sinai High School.

The senior, who went on to an All-American football career at Georgetown, was in his first season on the track team after a fine career as a tennis player, during which he teamed up with Nathan Shaw to win the the 1993 Division Doubles Championship.

In the Division Track Championships earlier in May, Mattimore set the school record in a time of 11.12. He followed that up with a strong showing at the County Championships that placed him among the fastest runners on Long Island.
