On this day 36 years ago, the boys’ tennis team topped Westhampton Beach, 5-2, in the first round of the Suffolk County tournament.

After finishing the regular season as undefeated League Champions, the Shrikes dropped their non-league season finale to Westhampton, 3-4. In the postseason rematch, Greg Fitzpatrick took 1st singles (6-3, 6-4) and Ed Lin won 4th singles (6-2, 6-0), while the doubles tandems of Chris Levy and Jim Simpson (4-6, 6-3, 6-4), Ed Packett and Steve Papandon (5-7, 6-2, 6-2), and Don Storey and James Storey (6-2, 6-3) swept their matches for the winning margin.

The Brook eventually fell to eventual County Champion Ward Melville in the quarterfinals.
