The ’96 Bears

On this day 23 years ago, the baseball team topped Smithtown Christian, 10-0. Here is the recap from Newsday:

Sorbello Paces S. Brook

Geoff Sorbello went 4-for-5 with four RBI, including a two-run single that gave Stony Brook a 2-0 first-inning lead in its 10-0 win over Smithtown Christian yesterday in a League VIII boys baseball game. Stony Brook improved to 9-2 and took a one-game lead on second-place Pierson / Bridgehampton (10-3), which lost 6-2 to Port Jefferson (4-7). Robbie Marvin and Paul Ciofrone each hit two-run home runs in an eight-run second inning for Stony Brook. Chris Meserole (four innings) and Pete Grimm (three) combined on a two-hitter for the Bears. Meserole earned the win. Mike Viviano took the loss for Smithtown Christian (3-8).

The Bears went on to win the League and County Championships that season.
