On this day 19 years ago, Robbie Marvin ’96 helped the University of Virginia baseball team earn a 10-9 comeback victory over #22 Wake Forest.
The Deamon Deacons jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the 1st, but the Cavaliers responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, spurred by Marvin. The former Bear laced a single to right field, stole second, and came around on a double to get UVA on the board to jump start the three-run inning.
The Cavs edged closer in the bottom of the 2nd when an RBI-single by Marvin cut the deficit to 4-6, but the Deacons responded with three unanswered runs to carry a 9-4 lead into the 7th inning.
In the bottom of the 7th, the Cavs added four runs with two outs, one of which scored by Marvin, to close within 9-8. The rally continued in the bottom of the 9th with two outs and runners on second and third (Marvin) when Tim LaVigne roped the game-winning hit over the leftfielder’s head.
Marvin finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with 3 runs and an RBI.
