On this day 40 years ago, Don Lockerbie ’75 was a double winner as the University of North Carolina downed NC State and Duke in the Tin Can at Chapel Hill.

The former Brooker won the 1,000 yard run and, with the help of Todd McCallister, E. J. Clemons, and David Hankins, won the distance medley relay in 10:18.4 as the Tar Heels beat the Wolfpack and Blue Devils 63.5 – 54.5 – 27.

Lockerbie ran the 12th fastest 1,000 in America in 1979 (2:09.9), qualifying him for NCAA Championships and earning him a 2nd Team All-America honor.
