The 1988-89 Bears

On this day 30 years ago, the boys’ basketball team topped Mercy, 69-59.

The Bears trailed 7-18 after the first quarter, but responded with an 18-16 second frame to trail by nine at the half. The Blue & White defense shackled the Monarchs in the third quarter, holding their opponent to just two points while unleashing 15 of their own to take a 40-36 edge into the final frame. In a frenzied fourth quarter that saw 52 total points scored, the Bears outscored the Monarchs 29-23 to secure the win.

Lael Campbell led all scorers with 28 points, including four 3-pointers, while Greg Mahland added 13 and Sean Herring 12. Stephen Pulliam (9), Kevin Kunst (4), Chad Smith (2), and Kolt Jones (1) rounded out the scoring for the Brook.
