William & Mary men’s basketball freshman Chase Audige was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Audige joins classmate L. J. Owens in earning the weekly award this season, giving the Tribe the league’s top rookie award two of the first three weeks.
During the week, Audige averaged 17 points, 3.5 rebounds, and two steals per game, while shooting 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the floor and 60 percent (6-of-10) from 3-point range. He was a major spark in the Tribe’s 20-point, second-half comeback win over Saint Joseph’s on Saturday. Audige scored 16 of his career-high 20 points in the second half, including 10 straight at one point. He was 5-of-7 from 3-point range, including a huge step-back triple to tie the game at 85-85 with 48 seconds remaining. He turned in an impressive stat line against the Hawks adding four rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocked shots.
Audige started the week by making his first collegiate start against reigning Big South Champion Radford on Tuesday. He played all but one minute in the contest, finishing with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go with three rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
With his dynamic week, Audige bumped his scoring average to nine points per game, which is fourth among league rookies. He ranks among the CAA leaders in 3-point shooting (fifth at 47.6 percent), steals (13th at 1.2 per game) and 3-pointers made (15th at 1.7 per game). All three are tops among CAA freshmen.
