On Thursday afternoon, the girls’ swim team turned in several outstanding performances as they tied Catholic League giant St. John the Baptist, 47-47.
Every time Madi Sargent enters the water there is a chance for history to be made, and Thursday lived up to the potential as the freshman broke two school records in recording two individual victories for the Brook. In her first event, she lowered her own school record in the 100 freestyle with a new mark of 53.75. Then, in the 100 backstroke, she broke Rachel Crane’s mark of 1:02.54, set at last year’s League Championships, with a time of 1:02.35.
Other individual winners for the Brook included Ruth Crane in the 200 freestyle (2:12.79) and 500 freestyle (5:53.51) and Rebecca Crane in the 200 individual medley (2:22.75). Sargent and the Cranes teamed up with Francine Leung to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.70) and with Sarah Vincent to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:58.61).
The Bears are back in the water on Tuesday in a home meet with East Hampton.
