On Friday night, the volleyball team swept the Knox School, 3-0, to remain undefeated on the season at 3-0.
The Falcons scored the first two points of set one, but Liz Robbins used four aces to vault the Brook into the lead, 6-2. Two more points, one of them a Mercedes Alvarez kill, gave the Bears an early 8-2 edge. Knox crept back within 9-8, but three straight aces from Alvarez, then back-to-back kills from Bekah Detwiler and Shannuel Lamptey pushed the Blue & White lead to 15-9. A Robbins kill left the Bears ahead 17-10 before Leslie Kang uncorked three consecutive aces to build a commanding 20-10 advantage. The Bears were untested the rest of the set and Detwiler emphatically closed the 25-15 win with a rocket of a kill.
The Bears charged out to an 8-1 lead in set two thanks to three aces from Robbins, a kill each from Alvarez and Lamptey, and two spikes from Detwiler. Four consecutive aces from Alvarez extended the edge to 13-3. Later in the game, the Brook held a 17-9 lead before closing the set with an 8-0 spurt, punctuated by three Lamptey aces.
Set three was never in doubt as the Bears used a 10-0 run to build a 14-2 lead, winning two long rallies that both energized the Blue Fan Group and sapped the Falcons of any remaining hope. Niamh Scanlon capped the 25-8 win and the sweep with a laser of an ace. Detwiler had 3 kills and an ace in the set while Alvarez added 4 aces and Scanlon 2 aces and a kill.
The Bears are currently tied atop the PSAA East Division standings with Long Island Lutheran (4-0). They are back in action on Tuesday in a league match-up at Kew-Forest.
