This afternoon, the boys’ and girls’ badminton teams each earned their biggest victories in the fourth year of the program, beating Smithtown East for the first time in their history. Neither team had ever been closer to the Bulls than a 3-6 loss in their previous six all-time matches.
The boys topped the Bulls 6-3 to improve to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in League II, matching the 2017 team for the best start in program history, while the girls improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in League II, their best start in program history.
On the boys’ side, the Bears took four of the five singles matches as Jerry Liu (15-1, 15-8), Tony Yu (15-10, 15-6), Ulysses Zhang (15-8, 15-10), and David Wang (15-1, 15-6) dominated the opposition. Sam Han and Sam Wong (15-2, 15-4) and Ben Sray and Bob Wu (15-10, 15-13) wrapped up the victory with doubles wins.
For the girls, Mary Wang (11-1, 11-6), Ariel Wang (11-5, 11-2), and Nancy Man (11-8, 11-7) earned singles wins while Melody Li and Leslie Kang (15-5, 15-3) and Ella Liu and Lily Zhang (15-9, 15-8) earned wins at doubles.
The Bears are back on the court next Tuesday in a league match-up at Lindenhurst.
