This afternoon, the boys’ tennis team edged Sachem, 4-3, to secure sole possession of 2nd place in League V. Entering the match, the Bears and Flaming Arrows each had only one league loss and identical scores in wins over league opponents Bayport-Blue Point and Longwood. The stage was set for a thriller and the match did not disappoint.
The Bears took three of the four singles matches as Brandon Gicquel fought off Sachem’s talented first singles player, 6-3, 6-3, Wensan Yin won a high-octane affair 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, and Bradley Choi fought back to win his first set 7-6 (6-2) before closing out the win with a 6-4 second set.
Meanwhile, Sachem took wins at second singles and first and second doubles to knot the match at 3-3, leaving the third doubles match as the decider. In the waning daylight, Andy Liu and Alan Wang got the job done, winning 6-1, 6-2 to give the Brook a gritty win.
With the win, the Bears improve to 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in the league. They take the court again on Friday in a home match-up with league leader Ward Melville.
