Yesterday afternoon, the baseball team topped Greenport, 18-12, and in doing so scored their most runs in a game since a 20-7 win over Shelter Island on May 19, 2008.

The Bears came out swinging, plating four in the 1st inning thanks to a two-run double by Joe Wozny, a run-scoring single by Dan Rueda, and a bases loaded walk from Jack Derco. The Porters got two back in the bottom of the 1st to trail, 2-4.

The Brook pushed across four more runs in the top of the 4th to extend their lead to 10-5, but Greenport plated three in their half of the inning to stay within striking distance. Malik Ulysse drew a one-out walk in the 5th and Seamus Scanlon followed with his third hit to help the Bears add two runs in the inning, but the Porters responded with three runs in the bottom half to close to within 12-11. The Brook finally put the game away with three runs in each of the final two innings while Dan Rueda nailed down the save.

Scanlon led the way for the Bears with 5 hits on the day (4 singles/ 1 double) while Joe Wozny (2 doubles/ 1 single), Aidan Mega (2 singles/ 1 double), and Dan Rueda (3 singles) helped power the offense. The foursome accounted for 14 of the Bears’ 15 hits on the day.

With the win, the Bears improve to 3-2 on the season and look to win the season series with Greenport this afternoon.
