The 1969-70 wrestling squad

On this day 48 years ago, the wrestling squad won the Ivy League Championship. The win brought them their second title in three years, their seventh overall, and began a run of three straight championships between 1970 and 1972.

Stony Brook Ivy Champs

Ira Orchin of Poly Prep lost a 140-pound match–his first defeat in two years of wrestling–as Stony Brook edged Poly, 90-77, to win the Ivy Prep League Wrestling Championships at the Brooklyn school Saturday.

Doug Howard of Stony Brook was the 140-pounder who decisioned Orchin, 10-8. Other winners for Stony Brook included Norm Olley, 126 pounds; Bruce Councell, 133; and Rich Loos, 188.
