Spooner defends during the 1968-69 season
On this day 47 years ago, Harold Spooner ’70 scored 27 points to lead Houghton College to a 110-81 victory over Elmira in the last game of the season.
Houghton trailed 45-46 at the half, but turned up their zone press in the second half, yielding 20 turnovers. Spooner closed his freshman year by leading the team in scoring at 16.8 points per game.
He would go on to become an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American and earn a place in Houghton’s Athletic Hall of Fame after scoring over 1,300 career points.
