Yesterday afternoon, the girls’ basketball team rolled Port Jeff, 40-15, behind 21 points from Beth Felix and a stout defense that allowed no more than five points in any quarter. It was a markedly different game than the Bears’ 55-41 win in early January. With the win, Stony Brook’s girls’ teams also improve to 7-0 on the season vs. the Royals to go along with victories in cross country, soccer (2), and volleyball (2).
The Bears led 5-1 after a low-scoring opening quarter and took a 14-6 lead into the half. Then, the Brook took control in a 17-4 third quarter before cruising to victory.
Beth Felix led all scorers with 21 points while Danielle Graves (5), Leka Lee-Maeba (4), Wura Obasanjo (4), Jessica Nwachukwu (2), and Caroline Maglione (2) rounded out the scoring. Felix is currently 9th on the Suffolk scoring list at 21.0 points per game.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon in a match-up at Pierson and are still alive for a playoff spot.
