Each week the Athletic Department, in conjunction with the coaching staff, will select an Athlete of the Week who best embodies what we hope for in our student-athletes. The honor can as readily go to a Bear for an outstanding performance or for making their team better through their daily sacrifice, work ethic, and spirit.

This week’s Athlete of the Week is Hunter Markowitz.

After a fantastic freshman season for the swim team, Markowitz raised his game in his second year with the Bears. The sophomore co-captain earned two individual titles in last week’s League Championships, claiming the 100 freestyle (49.20) and 50 freestyle (22.78). His day was not done, however, as he went on to break the 26-year-old school record in the 100 free, set with a blazing 48.87 first leg of the 400 freestyle relay. Beyond his performance in the water, Markowitz brings tremendous value to the team with his infectious energy and daily commitment to hard work.

His season continues in the County Championships on Saturday, February 17 where he will compete in the 50 free, 100 free, and a pair of relays.
