On Thursday afternoon at the League II Swimming Championships, the boys’ swim team turned in a memorable performance as 14 season best times and one school record fell in their wake.

Hunter Markowitz led the way with two individual League Championships in the 100 freestyle (49.20) and 50 freestyle (22.78) to improve upon his respective silver and bronze performances a season ago. Then, in the 400 freestyle relay, he led off with a 48.87 100 split to break the school record of 48.95 set by Will Smith in 1992. That time ranks him second in Suffolk heading into the County Championships.

Markowitz’s fellow captain, Spencer Griffin, turned in two lifetime bests in the 100 breaststroke (2nd place/1:03.31) and 200 individual medley (5th/2:09.77). Jack Thiele swam a lifetime best in the 100 back (10th/1:03.10) to qualify for the County Championships.

Two of the Bears’ relay teams qualified for the County Championships. Robert Fehrenbach and Markus Calero will join teammates Markowitz, Griffin, and Thiele who qualified as individuals. Counties will be held on Feb. 17 at Suffolk Community College Brentwood at 10:00am.
