Olivia Braat remained undefeated at fourth singles

The girls’ tennis team improved to 2-0 yesterday, clipping Rocky Point, 6-1, on a beautiful afternoon that hinted at Autumn’s return. Akari Yoshida lost a tight first singles battle (7-5, 4-6, 5-7), but the rest of the team made sure her valiant effort was not wasted. Seventh-grader Sadhana Sridhar stayed undefeated at second singles (6-0, 6-0) along with Nancy Lin (6-0, 6-0) and Olivia Braat (6-1, 6-1) as the Bears took a 3-1 lead.

The doubles tandems remained undefeated as well as Ha Min Cho/Angela Wong (6-0, 6-0), Julia Braat/Julie Wu (6-3, 3-6, 7-4), and Brianna Holochuck/Gracie Xie (6-1, 6-4) rounded out the dominant victory.

Head coach Jennifer Crane had this to say about her team’s performance:

Rocky Point has several good athletes. Our aggressive style of play helped us win against them.
One highlight was Julie Wu’s pivotal battle at the net at four-all in the tiebreaker. As her opponents drilled five, hard ground strokes at her, she kept her composure and outmaneuvered them to pull ahead.

The girls are back in action tomorrow at Mt. Sinai.
