Volleyball Goes Down Swinging vs. Warriors

This afternoon, against an opponent from three leagues above them, the volleyball team showed impressive resilience in a hard-fought, 0-3 defeat at home. The girls had opportunities to win each of the three games, but Comsewogue was able to come up with the big play whenever it needed to, stymying the Bears.

Things looked grim in the first set as the Brook fell behind 10-21, when Allisa Holt engineered an incredible 11-0 run with her devastating serve, punctuated by kills from Hannah Abrahamsen and Cordae Mattson, to knot the game at 21-21. However, after each team traded points to remain locked at 22-22, the Warriors reeled off three points in a row to take the set, 22-25.

Marlee Painter and Sammy Petersen’s defense was the highlight of the second set as the Bears took a slim 12-11 lead, but Comsewogue used a 9-1 run to take the set, 16-25. The Bears hung tough in the third round, taking a 20-19 lead after falling behind by as many as five early on, but the Warriors completed the sweep with a 6-1 run, giving them a 21-25 win in the final set. Joy Ezi had a great overall match, both with her defense and offensive kills.

The girls hit the floor again tomorrow as they host Mercy at 4:30.
