On Monday afternoon, the baseball team absorbed a late cancelation from Portledge by scheduling a game with the Harvey School in Katonah, NY. The Bears made the trip north to Westchester and returned home with a 7-2 victory.
The Bears got on the board first when they staged a two-out rally. Jordan Serrano walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Jojo Franco hit the very next pitch for a line drive to center that plated Serrano for a 1-0 lead. The Cavaliers struck back for two in their half of the 1st and were looking for more with a runner at third and only one out. Nick Parker bore down and struck out a pair to limit the damage.
The Bears knotted it up at 2-2 in the top of the 2nd when Juju Martinez (double) was chased home by a two-out double from Alex Baaden. After Parker worked a scoreless 2nd frame, the Bears retook the lead for good in the 3rd. Jayden Stroman began the inning with a single, stole second, and moved to third on an error. Serrano followed with a double that brought in the #4 sophomore in the country with a 3-2 lead. Serrano then stole third and came home on a Franco single. 4-2.
Parker threw up two more scoreless innings and Baaden added another, and the Bear offense went back to work in the 6th with three more runs. The Brook loaded the bases with one out on a Nico Marino walk, Baaden single, and Aiden Ruiz walk. Stroman followed with a single, Serrano earned a walk, and Franco turned in a productive out to push the lead to 7-2. Baaden and Serrano nailed down two scoreless innings to seal the win.
Parker earned the win with 5 hits and 2 runs over 4.0 innings, ringing up 5 strikeouts. Baaden and Serrano combined for 3.0 scoreless innings, yielding just 2 combined hits while striking out 4. Franco powered the offense with 3 RBIs.
