On Saturday afternoon, the baseball team faced off with The Hun School in Princeton, NJ, and returned to campus with a 13-0 victory.
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Bears got to work in the top of the 2nd when Seth Laureano reached on an error, moved to second base on a passed ball, and scampered to third on a sacrifice bunt from Juju Martinez. A Nico Marino single gave The Brook a 1-0 edge. They added another run in the 3rd when Jordan Serrano earned a one-out walk, stole second, and eventually came around on a steal of home.
The Bears broke it open in the 4th when they loaded the bases with one out on a Marino single and walks to Mateo Lopez and Aiden Ruiz. A fielder’s choice brought Hun within an out of escaping damage, but Serrano and Jojo Franco drew walks for a 4-0 lead. Two pitches later, Logan Charboneau all but put the game out of reach by socking a grand slam to center field that mushroomed the Bear lead to 8-0. With the bases now clear and two outs on the board, the Raiders still managed to load the bases on a trio of walks to Laureano, Martinez, and Marino. A fourth straight walk to Lopez followed for a 9-0 advantage.
The Bears brought in four more runs in the 7th on a Franco sacrifice fly, a Laureano two-run single, and another Lopez walk for the 13-0 margin. Franco was dominant on the mound, allowing just 1 hit over 6.0 innings while striking out 11. Jayden Stroman nailed down a clean 7th to preserve the shutout.
