On Saturday, individuals from the boys’ and girls’ track & field teams put up strong performances in a pair of invitationals.
At the Suffolk Coaches Invite, hosted by Commack HS, Zach Mogambi continued his outstanding throwing season by winning the shot put by nearly four feet and finishing runner-up in the discus. Mogambi’s heave of 51′ 11.5″ was easily the best throw in the shot put field of 106, outdistancing Walt Whitman’s Xavier Ali by 3′ 11.5″. That personal best throw is currently the #1 toss in NYSAIS this season by 8′ 3″ and the #5 throw overall in New York State. Mogambi was also runner-up by just five inches out of 75 throwers in the discus field with a toss of 145′ 5″. His best throw on the season is 153′ 5″, which is currently the best in NYSAIS by an astounding 46′ 7″ and is the #8 overall throw in NYS.
Members of the girls’ team traveled to Connetquot for the Joe Brandi Relays where Lilly Keegan, Evelyn Apazidis, Scarlett Davey, and Quinn Davey joined forces to finish in 2nd place in the rarely run Swedish Relay, or 1000 sprint medley relay. The race is comprised of 100, 200, 300, and 400 legs, and the Bears’ time of 2:33.90 left them behind only Islip (2:32.30) and ahead of traditional sprinting powerhouses like Bay Shore, Amityville, and Longwood. It is also the first time a Blue & White team has ever run this relay, so the quad also has the distinction of setting a new school record.
