In the world of high school badminton, there is no school more legendary than Miller Place.
From 1973 to 2005, the Panthers won 504 consecutive matches, which the Guinness Book of World Records recognizes as the longest winning streak in U.S. history. They lead the second-place team on the list (Sweet Home girls’ volleyball in Amherst, NY) by a staggering 212 victories. Stony Brook’s racqueteers topped Miller Place in 2017 and 2018 while the Bears were still members of the NYSPHSAA and continued their own winning streak by besting the Panthers, 11-6, in non-league action Friday afternoon.
Daniel Wong (21-12, 21-11), Junwon Seo (21-5, 21-15), Erin He (21-17, 13-21, 22-20), Daniel Kim (21-7, 21-19), Ethan Rao (21-13, 21-11), and Ariel Yu (15-21, 21-12, 21-17) earned singles wins for the Bears.
On the doubles side, Aidan Riley and Andrew Wong (21-16, 22-24, 21-9), Emily Yao and Jason Kim (21-6, 21-19), Ivy Li and Sherry Song (21-7, 21-17), Bei Bei Huang and Leo Lin (21-9, 17-21, 21-10), and Rania Lajmi and Madison Dumerlin (21-18, 21-16) secured victories.
