Another Saturday, another fine showing for our track & field athletes, three of whom put down times or distances that place them in the top spot of the current NYSAIS rankings.
In the Girls’ Suffolk Coaches Invitational, Scarlett Davey finished 3rd in the 400 in a time of 61.15, giving her the top independent school time in New York this year. The freshman fell by less than a second to a pair of seniors. In the 200 she ran to a 5th place finish in a time of 27.74 behind a quad of senior sprinters. Mindy Yoder also earned a top-10 finish for the Bears, taking 8th in the 400 hurdles (1:16.15).
At the Dennis Walker Relay, hosted by Huntington HS, Duncan Kipkoech and Zach Mogambi each rose to the top of the NYSAIS rankings in their respective events. Kipkoech ran to a 5th place finish in the 1600 (4:42), while Mogambi took 1st in the shot put (47′ 1.5″). Mogambi also had a discus heave earlier this week of 153′ 5″ which gave him the #1 rank in NYSAIS by 47-feet. Mogambi settled for 2nd in the disc on Saturday with a toss of 146′ 3″. Niks Zemitis was the other top-10 finisher for the boys, taking 5th in the long jump with a distance of 20′ 3″.
The Bears are back in action on Friday afternoon when they host the first PSAA meet of the season.
