Baaden in action this season (PC: Jackson Loo)

On Monday afternoon, the baseball team traveled to Columbia University for a NYSAIS match-up with Collegiate and wasted little time in burying the Dutchmen in an early deficit before cruising to a 12-1 win.

In the top of the 1st, nine Blue & White runs came across, six with two outs:

  • 1-0: Aiden Ruiz steals home
  • 2-0: Logan Charboneau double
  • 3-0: Seth Laureano single
  • 4-0: Mateo Lopez Walk
  • 7-0: Aiden Ruiz triple
  • 9-0: Jayden Stroman single

After Chris Nell worked a 1-2-3 bottom half with a pair of strikeouts, the Bears hung two more runs in the 2nd when Laureano singled, moved to second base on an error, stole third, and scored on a Juju Martinez ground out. An Alex Baaden triple plated Isaiah Gibbs, who reached on the error. The Bears added another run in the 3rd.

Collegiate scored their lone run in the 4th before the mercy rule was activated following the 5th inning. Nell earned the win by allowing just 2 hits in 2.0 innings while striking out 5. Baaden and Jordan Serrano combined for 1 hit and 4 strikeouts over the final 3.0 innings.
