Yesterday afternoon, the baseball team improved to 9-3 on the season with a 13-1 victory over Hampton Bays.
The Bears opened the scoring in the top of the 1st when Aiden Ruiz singled, stole second and third, and then scampered home on a passed ball. Hampton Bays knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homer, but it proved to be their only run against the Bears’ stable of arms.
The Bears retook the lead in the 4th when a two-out bunt from Devon McMorris turned into two runs on an error by the third baseman. The Brook put the game out of reach with a 9-run 5th that included a Logan Charboneau home run (1 run), Seth Laureano double (1), Ruiz double (3), Jordan Serrano homer (2), Laureano ground ball error (1), and Isaiah Gibbs walk (1). Ruiz capped his 4-for-5, 4 RBI day at the plate with a home run to right in the 6th, closing out the scoring.
The pitching quartet of Alex Baaden, Matthew Ramirez, Shea Corona, and Serrano combined to allow just 3 hits and 1 run over 6.0 innings while striking out 8, including a team-leading 3 Ks from Ramirez.
The Bears are back on Jeff Adams Field this afternoon vs. Kellenberg.
