On Wednesday afternoon, the girls’ lacrosse team improved to 3-0 in league play with a dominant 20-6 win over Long Island Lutheran in Brookville to sweep the season series for the second straight year. Combined with their 22-4 victory on the last day of March, the Bears outscored their Nassau rivals 42-10 this season, a far cry from the 5-20 loss they suffered to the Crusaders in the 2019 PSAA semifinals.
The Blue & White charged out to a 12-3 lead at the half and never looked back as they improved their all-time record vs. the league’s former powerhouse to 4-3. Natalia Pagano led a balanced scoring attack with 6 goals and an assist. Morgan Ruggieri (5G/ 2A), Alexis Savage (3G/ 3A), Mia Trama (2G/ 4A), Sydneyanna Giardini (3G), Michelle Xuan (1G), and Alexandra Puopolo (1A) created a pick-your-poison scenario for the LuHi defense, each posing a constant threat in the offensive box. Georgia Apazidis led the team with 6 ground balls while Trama and Savage each scooped up 5. Emily Berger made 11 stops in net.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday in a home match-up with Staten Island Academy.
