The 1972-73 basketball squad

On this day 49 years ago, the basketball team won the Little Four Championship. The Blue & White earned a berth in the title game after a 68-52 win over Poly Prep in the semifinals, reversing course on the 42-56 and 43-59 defeats they suffered to the Brooklynites during the regular season. The win set up a match-up with Eastern Military Academy in the final.

Stony Brook Champs

Stony Brook School captured its third consecutive Little Four basketball championship with a 53-49 victory over Eastern Military Academy last night. In the consolation game, Friends defeated St. Paul’s, 89-51.

Bob Vijvoda and Wayne Pierce of Stony Brook scored consecutive baskets to assure the Stony Brook triumph in the final two minutes.
