Stony Brook Wins
Rebecca Fischer scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead No. 3 Stony Brook to a 48-30 victory over No. 2 Hampton Bays in a semifinal game.
Stony Brook (14-6) took a 13-2 lead after the first quarter and Hampton Bays (13-6) never got closer than nine after that.
“Defensively we were tremendous all night,” Stony Brook coach Keith Singer said. “Anna Linzee had six steals on the night and six points in the first quarter. She was the key to getting us out to a quick lead. We did a good job contesting shots all night,” Singer said. “It didn’t seem like there were too many good looks to be had.”
And, as to his upcoming opponent, Singer remarked simply, “They’re back.”
Stony Brook will be getting its third crack at Southampton, losing two regular-season games by scores of 49-33 and 49-30.
