Last week, the boys’ basketball team watched from the sidelines as three games were either canceled or postponed due to various COVID-19 related issues, but yesterday afternoon they began the process of getting back into rhythm in a 74-48 league opening win over Lawrence Woodmere Academy.
The Bears and Tigers battled to a 13-13 stalemate after the first quarter as Osazee Alapa led the way with eight points in the frame. A 22-13 second quarter, powered by a pair of 3-pointers from Gustav Skogsjo and six points from Nick Zemitis, gave the Blue and White a 35-26 edge at the break.
In the third, Skogsjo knocked down three more trifectas to power the Bears in a 25-12 frame that put the game out of reach for good. The sophomore finished with a team-high 17 points to lead a very balanced scoring attack: Zemitis (12), Alapa (12), CJ Edwards (11), Oskar Humpert (10), Randolph Logan (5), Anthony Zajac (4), Michael Xiang (2), Jacob Lippe (2).
The Bears are back in action this afternoon in a PSAA match-up at Knox.
