Volleyball Closes 5th Straight Undefeated Season

The Champs (PC: Bruce Jeffrey)

On Wednesday afternoon, the volleyball team closed their regular season with a 3-0 victory over Portledge. Despite clinching the PSAA regular season title on Friday, the Bears had plenty to play for in Locust Valley with a fifth consecutive undefeated season on the line as well as a school record in their sights.

From 2005-2008, our girls’ basketball team won an astonishing 37 consecutive league games, a total the volleyball team equaled with Friday’s win over Kew-Forest. The victory over Portledge eclipsed that total and cemented their status as one of the greatest dynasties in school history.

The Panthers, who the Bears had previously swept 3-0, put up little resistance as the Brook took all three sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-17. Aside from a 38th straight league win, it was the Bears’ 17th straight sweep vs. league opponents, including playoff matches.

The Bears now await their semifinal opponent as they take the top seed in the PSAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row. They will face either Kew-Forest or Portledge in the fourth seed slot.
