Volleyball Edges Closer to 5th Straight Title

Yesterday afternoon, the volleyball team took a big step toward their fifth straight undefeated regular season title by sweeping Long Island Lutheran in Brookville. The win marked their 36th consecutive league victory, 15th straight league sweep, and seventh straight over LuHi.

The Bears locked horns with their primary league rivals on Friday evening and came away with a tough 3-0 sweep. Yesterday they traveled into enemy territory and were untested in a 25-16, 25-9, 25-16 win.

Carmen Alvarez Herrero led the Bears’ serving with 5 aces while Niamh Scanlon (3), Lily Middlekauff (3), Lilly Keegan (2), Gillian Bernier (2), and Ella Middlekauff (1) also fired aces. Georgia Apazidis anchored the defense with 16 digs and Keegan led the Bears with 11 kills while Ava McCormick (9), Lily Middlekauff (6), Ella Middlekauff (5), and Bernier (5) also registered kills. Niamh Scanlon was the catalyst for the offense, assisting on 33 kills.

The Bears have a chance to clinch the East Division title on Friday afternoon in their Homecoming game vs. Kew-Forest.
