Bears Roll in Championship Rematch

The first day of fall arrived yesterday, bringing with it the familiar sights of falling leaves, diminishing daylight, and the unrelenting domination of our girls’ tennis team.

In a rematch of the 2020 PSAA Championship match, the Bears defeated Portledge, 4-1, to improve to 3-0 on the season and run their undefeated PSAA match streak to 16, dating back to 2018. This win, coupled with last week’s sweep of Long Island Lutheran, puts the Bears in the driver’s seat for a fourth consecutive regular season title.

Carina Cristobal (6-0, 6-0), Alana Wu (6-4, 6-0), and Isabel Guo (6-0, 6-3) swept the singles matches while Ali Cristobal and Juliana Arrieta (6-7, 7-6, 10-5) won a third set tiebreaker to take a tight second doubles match. Carina’s win at first singles was her fifth straight without dropping a single game.

The Bears are back in action on October 4 in a home non-league match-up vs. Port Jeff.
