Two years ago, the Bears came tantalizingly close to claiming the State Championship when they tied Rye High School 43-43 but lost the tiebreaker based on their number of individual 1st place finishes. This year, after COVID-19 canceled the 2020 event, the Bears returned and captured the crown for the first time in program history.

The Bears entered two teams with each comprised of both an A Division and B Division boat. Incredibly, not only did the Bears win the event, but the second team took 4th overall in a fleet of 14 teams. For details on who sailed in what vessel, see the roster below.

The regatta, hosted by the Rochester Yacht Club, was comprised of 10 races with the A and B squad for each team sailing in five. Bears 2A took 1st, 1st, 3rd, and 4th in their first four races before rudder trouble in their final race prevented them from finishing. In the event of technical trouble, a “Breakdown” is issued and an average of their previous race scores is given for that race. Bears 2B claimed 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd in a dominant performance that gave Bears 2 an overall score of 18 to claim the championship.

Bears 1A earned finishes of 5th, 12th, 11th, 6th, and 6th, while Bears 1B took 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 1st for a combined score of 53 to earn a 4th overall finish.
