Yesterday afternoon, the girls’ lacrosse team traveled across the Verrazzano Bridge and returned home with a 13-6 victory over Staten Island Academy. The win helped the Bears improve to 3-0 on the season and added to their run of strong second half performances to start the season.
In their season opener they outscored LuHi 11-1 in the second half in a 16-3 victory and on Saturday they rode a 7-4 second half edge to a thrilling 10-9 win over Poly Prep. Yesterday, the Bears put the game out of reach with a 7-2 second half following a 6-4 lead at the break.
Morgan Ruggieri was again the offensive catalyst for the Bears, scoring 5 goals and notching 4 assists while scooping a team-high 9 ground balls. McCormick maintained her role as the second half of a dynamic duo, scoring 4 goals and registering an assist while feeding the Blue & White offense with 9 draw controls. Michelle Xuan earned her second hat trick of the season with 3 goals. Emily Berger recorded 18 saves in goal.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday in a PSAA match-up at Long Island Lutheran.
